Thursday's are for Yoga
For those of you who are not familiar with or knowledgeable, Yoga in its simplest term is the combination of physical and mental exercises that has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body.
I’ve always wanted to practice yoga. But after my traumatic experience, I felt the urge more to listen and tune in more to my body. Each session has offered Shavon and me more and more flexibility to our bodies. Last week was challenging for a few poses, but nonetheless, I’m always proud of myself for taking the first step and being committed to this Yoga journey. Early on, we practiced the art of releasing. Sometimes you have to let go to make space for new experiences, relationships, new life lessons. One intention I set, was to trust myself more and to trust my body. I knew that I would have to let go and release the limiting beliefs that could potentially hold me back from really flowing through each movement and pose transition.
Each Thursday (and some weeks the day may fluctuate), for one hour, Shavon and I practice with our private instructor Taylor. In our last session recap, we were reminded that strength and flexibility will help us get into those more difficult postures and more difficult obstacles. Being present in the practice of Yoga helps me set the intention for everything that is to come within this journey. It’s our willingness to be present with whatever arises that gives us the strength to keep going.
Each session I feel more in tuned and extremely proud of the journey I am on. Adding yoga into my lifestyle has helped me stay accountable for the personal self-care goals I am trying to reach. Over time I've learned the importance of giving myself time and listening to my body. I needed this experience.
